Rib Injury: Rib Belts Providing Stability
A rib fracture may result from a direct blow or fall on the chest, resulting in pain when breathing or coughing. Localised tenderness is present over the fracture sites.
The fractures can usually be identified on x-ray and treatment in the majority of cases involves nothing more than the injection of a local anaesthetic and the encouragement of a normal pattern of breathing.
To help relieve pain, stabilisation of the damaged rib cage can be achieved through use of rib belts, which are specifically designed, through a combination of elasticated and hook and pile closures, for the male and female figure to provide stability to the rib cage, helping to relieve pain.
Exercise Treatment Programme: Support4Physio supply a male and female rib belt to provide stability to a damaged rib cage during exercise, including the Oppo: Rib Belt (Male) and the Oppo: Rib Belt (Female). Products differ in their design to account for the anatomical differences in the male and female body.
To reduce initial swelling following a rib injury cold packs may be beneficial.
