Abdominal Curl Mat Exercise

Performing an effective abdominal curl works the muscles in the anterior torso, including the rectus abdominus, internal and external obliques.

Instructions:

  • \"\"Lie face up (supine) on a mat,
  • keeping your back straight and your knees bent to 90 degrees.
  • With your feet flat to the floor and your hands on the thighs,
  • slowly curl upwards until your fingers touch your knees (spinal flexion).
  • You should achieve approximately 35-45 degrees of movement.
  • In a smooth controlled movement slowly lower your back,
  • maintaining tension on your abdominals and keeping your  shoulders slightly off the floor.
  • Throughout the exercise maintain a neutral spine, keeping a small gap between the chin and the chest about the size of your own fist.
